Mary - special sister-in-law

Memories of Mary

I first met Mary, and Jane and Hannah, nearly thirty years ago when Elaine and I first got together. The girls must have been 13 or 14 and even then it was obvious to me that they were proud to have Mary as a role model.

Over the years, Mary and I have had intense discussions about a number of topics including politics, although we never managed to change each other's viewpoint, and literature.

I have enjoyed her company and remember with fondness her generosity and kindness. She was always positive, never complained, never seemed to lose her temper and provided great support in encouraging Jane and Hannah to follow their dreams, think independently and be loving and kind.

I shall miss our discussions about books, family and holidays and remain disappointed that I was never able to persuade her to make her glorious quilts more quickly so that we could set up a business selling them! Whenever Mary came to stay with us in France she always wanted to do the washing up claiming that washing up was simply water play for adults!

Washing up will never quite be the same without her!
